JVC TOKYO VIDEO FESTIVAL
Founded in 1978, the JVC-sponsored Tokyo Video Festival (TVF) is now the largest international video contest in Japan. It is open to amateurs and professionals, short and feature-length films, documentaries and fiction. We present a selection of TVF 2008.
HANSEL'S MOON TOWN

In this drama, a boy called Hansel learns the importance of supporting one another no matter how poor their lives may be. An old man who once went to the moon decides to return to the moon when he runs out of food, and begins to climb a wall. Computer graphics are used to synthesize the characters and the background.
BLUE SKY, NIGHT SKY, STARRY SKY

Riri and Kouda are good friends, but when Kouda gets a boyfriend, Riri is left alone. This drama is about the loneliness of Riri and her friendship. At end of a summer vacation, Kouda declares her love to her classmate Iizuka. It is the blue sky, night sky, and starry sky that alleviate the loneliness of Riri.
THE DANDELION SISTER (TANPOPO NO ANE)

A clay animation that delicately portrays the complicated psychology of two sisters. The younger sister has two concerns. One is her inability to draw pictures, and the other is her fear of her elderly sister. But an incident leads them to reconciliation.

An artistic work in which everyday life scenes are captured in various ways, and real and virtual spaces are linked together. This experimental video fully using CG effects throughout the work shows sports gym, library, and outdoor scenes in facets of a hexahedron to visually express the connections between the two spaces.
THE LAST CHAPTER

A documentary focusing on a memoir written by the filmmaker’s late father and portraying how her feelings toward her father change while she tries to understand him through her Canadian and Japanese families. The strict father blames his children in the last chapter of his memoir, and this has estranged himself from the rest of his family. While looking back on family memories, the filmmaker tries to understand her father’s feelings and the true intentions behind his words.
