Xiaofen works in a law firm in Zigong, an industrial city in China. She records the claims and complaints of divorce cases, abuse, medical negligence and accidents at work. Xiaofen’s life has its own crises: her drunken boyfriend who is addicted to gambling; her mother puts pressure on her to have a date; her father reappears; and the city is threatened with toxic pollution. Does the final enigmatic sequence suggest that something new might come out of adversity?

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
Ying Liang was born in Shanghai, China, in 1977. He graduated in film direction at the Chongqing Film Academy and the Beijing Normal University. He directed the short film The Missing House (2003) and the feature film Taking Father Home (2006). This is his second film.
